⦁ Remains Persist
MoCA Los Angeles 2023
PSNY New York 2022
Site specific Scenography
Remains Persist examines how historical and ongoing forms of socio-political transformation exist as “remains” within the body. Rather than treating these remains as something to be expelled or repressed, artists (Cyril Baldy, Malcolm-x Betts, Lizzie Feidelson, Kris Lee, João dos Santos Martins, Sarah Beth Percival, Varinia Canto Vila, Anh Vo) use their differing remains as energetic and generative resources. The work strips away, accentuates, and reconfigures various markers of identity, using movement, utterances, and language to break down the everyday performance of subjectivity.
The set uses modular platforms and configures them in site specific ways that respond to the architecture of each performance venue. The set accommodates both performers and audience and aims to offer a multitude of perspectives onto the performance situation.
